How to use ParallelGraphics forums?

It's easy.

On the first page of ParallelGraphics forums there is a list of the main (first level) forums. To enter these forums, just click the link on the first page.

The structure of a message header

The message header begins with a small picture of an envelope. These icons look like the following: , or .

The first icon ( ) indicates a message that you haven't read yet. The header of this message is shown in boldface type:

a message / Mr.Parker / 18.09.00 20:45

The second icon ( ) indicates a message that you have already read. The header is shown in normal type:

a message / Mr.Parker / 18.09.00 20:45

The third icon ( ) indicates a message that you have replied to. It is shown in italics:

a message / Mr.Parker / 18.09.00 20:45

If you are not registered, we cannot store any information about messages that you have read and replied to. Instead, you'll see all messages as unread.

To read the message, click its header next to the message icon.

The name of sender follows the message header. If the sender has selected to show his email address, you can reply to this message by clicking its name.

The date and time of a message is shown at the end of the header line.

There can also be an arrow. It looks like this:

a message / Mr.Parker / 18.09.00 20:45  Message from forum Mars Invasion

This arrow indicates that the message is from a sub-forum. To display the title of this sub-forum, position the pointer over the arrow. Try to do it here.

You can also change the color of messages in your Settings:

a message / Mr.Parker / 18.09.00 20:45

There are also messages from ParallelGraphics. Try to pay attention to these messages and read them, they can contain important information. These messages have specific color. They look like this:

message from Parallelgraphics / Parallelgraphics / 18.09.00 20:45

Not all messages of a forum can be shown on the single page. The number of messages on the page is modified in your Settings. To move through the list of messages, click one of the links at the end of page: New page of messages or Previous page of messages.

How to read a message

To read a message, click its header. You'll see the message header, the sender's name, the date it was sent and the message text.

If the message is a reply to another message, you can see strings of different colors. Every color indicates a part of a previous message. This helps you to understand which user wrote each part of the message.

When you open the message it becomes marked as read. If you want to mark it as unread (its header is in boldface), click the "Mark as Unread" button below the message text. When you have clicked this button, the text on it changes to "Mark as Read". To mark the message as read, click this button again.

There is a list of all messages in discussion below (the discussion begins with the first message). To move through the discussion, click message headers.

How to send a message

If you want to send a message (your message can begin a new discussion), enter the forum and click the [new message] menu command (a blue line on the top of the page).

To reply to a message, open it, and choose the [reply] command from the menu. The New Message page opens. Type the message header and text of your message.

If your text contains an Internet address like this: http://www.parallelgraphics.com, it automatically becomes a link.

Please note that only complete addresses convert to links. If you enter the address like this: www.parallelgraphics.com, it will not create a link.

The usage of HTML tags in the messages is forbidden.

If you mark the receive replies by e-mail checkbox, you will receive all replies to your messages on your e-mail address. In your Settings you can specify the format of these messages (text or HTML). If you mark the place the message to the root of the forum checkbox, your message will be placed to the root of the forum rather then to the current discussion, as if you hadn't replied a message, but sent a new one. It is useful in cases when you want to restore a forgotten discussion.
