For the textures use PixelTex which
converts jpeg/bmp files (with optional
seperate alpha channel) to a
PixelTexture node. Virtual impossible to
reverse the process.

For protecting the VRML itself it
depends on how far you wish to go.
If you put in enough PROTOs scripting
etc no one will be able to import it
into a 3d program. Hiding Inline urls in
script javascripting is another nice
trick for fooling downloding programs.
Also lots of Inlines makes it fun for
people to put the whole thing into one
thing.
The difficult but fool proof method is
to use CGI/PHP/PERL to generate the VRML
itself (hint PHP can open external
files).
Also nodes generated by the vrml itself
are very hard to save. For example the
