I had a problem with a project that worked fine on XP and failed on vista with the following error message:
"Attempted to read or write protected memory" etc etc
I found a solution that worked for me which consists in disabling the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) features on Vista:
- Open a command prompt as Administrator
- type: bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff
- reboot

Dan, tell me please what kind of exception do you catch?
I think, I have same problem. When I try to get access to scene nodes, I catch "kernel32.dll" error.
Unfortunately, your solution doesn't work for me.
Do you know another solution or may be any information about it?
